The Home Advantage
Fire up the grill and put on your favorite team jersey to kickoff “Homegating” Season 2020!

Marketplace and Consumer Trends
“Homegating” is not a new trend, but with fans less likely to attend games, it is a growing trend in 2020.
- 133 million Americans, or 76% of self-reported sports viewers, are interested in home watch parties.
- 60% of tailgaters are between the ages of 25-44 and about 42% traditionally spend at least $500 a season on food and supplies.
- No doubt homegating will drive sales of TVs. Every size TV has seen double digit growth in the first half of 2020. Large screen TVs, 65″ or larger, have already seen a 53% increase in units sold.
- Digital and social technology will also play a role as fans seek enhanced experiences, e.g. VR viewing (74%), second screens (66%) and live social media integration during games (64%).
- Comfortable seating is important. Outdoor furniture retailers reported huge spikes in sales in the first half of 2020. Overstock.com saw patio furniture sales increase a significant 225% year over year since April.
- Fans are flooding social media with recipes and creative ideas to serve up a winning “spread.”
